Prepare the Soil
Remove debris, weeds, and old grass.
Loosen the top 2–3 inches of soil.
Rake the area smooth.
Apply the Seed
Spread seed evenly using a broadcast or drop spreader.
Apply according to package coverage rates.
Rake and Protect
Lightly rake seed into soil so seeds are covered by about 1/8 inch of soil.
Optional: Apply a starter fertilizer for improved establishment.
Water Thoroughly
Keep soil consistently moist by watering lightly 1–2 times daily until seedlings reach about 2 inches tall.
Mow Carefully
Begin mowing when grass reaches 3–4 inches high.
