NUI Perennial Ryegrass Seed

Athens Seed

Nui (Lolium perenne) Is a perennial ryegrass that emulates early heading and has a growth peak rate in the late winter and early spring. This is one of the five varieties to come from New Zealand. Perennial ryegrass is a very competitive cool-season grass, well adapted to coastal regions with moderate temperatures.  Perennial ryegrass has the highest wear-tolerance of any cool-season grass and can tolerate high traffic. Ryegrass seed germinates quickly: 3 - 5 days in moderate temperatures.  A rapid turf cover is established within 4 - 8 weeks.  It is often used around homes, schools, parks, or for winter erosion control, pasture and as a cover crop when high water use is desirable.  Because it germinates quickly, it is often used for overseeding winter-dormant bermudagrass lawns.  Perennial Ryegrass does best in full sun but will tolerate some partial shade.  Its rapid establishment helps to suppress weeds.  It does not do well during periods hot summer temps and requires frequent watering. Quick and easy to establish and it truly has passed the test of time.

If used to overseed warm-season grasses, gradually reduce the height of the ryegrass in the spring by mowing it more closely and more often to encourage growth of warm-season grasses as they come out of dormancy.

For lawns- Plant at 6 - 9 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft.

For Cover Crops plant at 25-35 pounds per acre

For erosion Control plant at 25-35 pounds per acre on flat ground, increase the rate on slopes

Planting rate alone would be 40-50 pounds per acre
