The miracle fruit, also known as Sysepalum dulcificum, is a plant whose berries, when consumed, cause sour foods to taste sweet. This effect is due to miraculin, and can last up to 30 minutes. Cultivators report a demand from cancer patients because the fruit allegedly counteracts the metallic taste that is typically a side effect of chemotherapy. There has also been interest in producing them for patients with diabetes.
