Exactly what I ordered, fast!
I ordered the 2# Zenith Zoysia to recreate some resemblance of the backyard that I used to have. I have roughly 900 SF of area that I paid for St. Augustine sod to be laid two years ago. Unfortunately, last year the grass had lost 50% of the area, and this year it was looking like I'd only have 25% left. I completely tilled the top 3" of soil, mixed in 1/2" of black kow, 1/4" of mushroom compost, and 1/4" and 1/4" of peat moss. I tilled it all together again afterwards. Then, I leveled the soil as much as I was able (my yard has a 30% slope on one side and a 8% slope for the majority of the remainder of the yard). I used a Scott's edge spreader and was able to cover the entire yard (2x) with the 2# bag of seed. Then, I lightly raked the seed into the top 1/4" of soil. I laid rolls of straw mats over the entire yard, being careful to overlap as little as possible. I then walked every square inch of the mat, to be sure to press the seed to the newly soft, airy soil. Then, I watered the entire area with the spray attachment set to mist. I made sure that all of the straw and soil below was soaked, but not to the extent that I washed away soil or seed (no runoff)... That was six days ago (28 April 2025). Since then, I've been watering 2-3x daily and ensuring I don't water too little, but also not enough to create pools or runoff. My new soil is so much more airy and soaks up large amounts of water. Hopefully the seed takes well, and I can post some before and after photos with great results. Either way, I will show what the yard looks like around the 4th of July! I'm praying this seed works as well as I need it to. I've put in more work on the prep than most professionals would have!
